Putting Knowledge into Action

The Grade Two students were learning about solids, liquids and gases in Creation Studies.

They wanted to use the knowledge that they had gained to serve others.

Together, they decided to bake cupcakes (changes of states of matter by adding heat)
and sell them to the student body.
They then had a class discussion on what they would like to do with the funds.

(Seeing the sorting area where the food is sorted by kinds)

The students came up with several suggestions and narrowed it down to 4 choices.
They then voted as a class and decided that they wanted to bring the money
to a local charity: Community Care.

With the help of a few parents, the students mixed, baked and iced almost 200 cupcakes.
They sold each for 50 cents and raised $150.70

Many of the other students rallied around the Grade Two efforts by bringing in more than the required 50 cents. It was great to see $2 and $5 donations for a cupcake!

The students then arranged to head to Community Care and
personally visited with Ms. Betty-Lou Souter.

They got to see the room that many of our students helped decorate several years ago when Ms. Souter was the Grade Two and Three Adopt a Leader.

The students were able to see the clothing room and food shelves where those in need are able to choose some food to fill hungry tummies.

They were also able to meet several volunteers which allow Community Care to run smoothly.

Ms. Souter said that she would use the students' money that they raised to buy milk.

The goal was to learn about something in God's creation and put that knowledge to use in His world.

We are thankful for the work Community Care does in our community and are glad to have a small part in loving our neighbours.

Another way to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
