Idolatry Discerning

At our chapel today, we looked at how we need to discern the idols that are in our lives and how they threaten to push God out of our lives.
We opened with this great, upbeat song from Rend Collective
about God being our vision:

Then we watched this inspiring video of how some
high school students saw a problem and made a difference:

I Am Second is a great video series of people who are using their faith to make a difference.

We then welcomed Pastor Kevin. He spoke to us about idolatry discerning.

Our idols today are not golden calves and Baal statues.
Our idols of today include electronics, social media, school work, sports,
friendships, being popular, name brand clothing and fashion.

Pastor Kevin then told us we need to protect ourselves from the idols
that want our hearts, time and attention.
Just like in hockey we need to be protected, we also need to protect our hearts and minds.

We can protect ourselves from idols creeping into our lives by:
1) Reading the Bible
2) Praying
3) Worshiping - at church, at school, at play and at work

And while we love to celebrate everyone's birthday at Beacon,
today we had to sing a special happy birthday to Mrs. Judy Dykstra!
We love you, Mrs. Judy!
