Care + Action

This morning at our chapel, we talked about compassion.

compassion= care + action

Compassion requires us to do two things:
1) See 2) Do

We have to see and notice what is happening with people around us.
But, we also need to do something.

Mrs. Boks brought in a bag of items.
She had Mr. Brooks help her show them to the students.

Then she asked who could remember what they saw.
The students had great memories!

But then she asked if they noticed anything that Mr. Brooks might have needed help with.
No one noticed that Mr. Brooks had spilled mustard all over his tie!

But Mrs. Boks noticed and helped him clean his tie.

Great things can happen when ordinary people like you and me do extra ordinary things!
We are challenged every day to use
our hands, our eyes, our feet and our mouths to show compassion.
What will you see and do today?

And here is one spontaneous example of students noticing and doing.
This picture was snapped while we were exiting chapel.

Earth Keepers

Today we were earth keepers in our community.
We boarded buses and drove down to the walking path between Bunting Rd. and Grantham Ave.
Together, we cleaned up the walkway between Carlton and Parnell Road.
We were glad to do a small part caring for God's earth.
Happy earth day!

All clean!

Easter

Today we reflected on the joy of Easter in our chapel.
Our grade four students led us with their recorders in the singing of Alleluia He is Coming.

We then heard from Pastor Woody. He spoke to us about Jesus tangible reminder that he is risen!

He brought to life the story of Jesus on the road to Emmaus.

He shared the joy that Jesus' story doesn't end on the cross.

Hallelujah! He is risen. He is risen indeed!

Our primary students shared their Easter memory work from Matthew 28:1-10

We also had a praise team share two new Easter songs with us. The first is called Praise the King

Grade 5 shared an Easter chant

The second praise song is called Praise the Name of the Lord Our God

We pray you have a blessed Easter celebrating this great truth!
Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again!
Hallelujah!

Bowling Fun!

Earlier this winter, our school participated in the MS Read a thon. We live in a community where we know many people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis. Our Beacon community has supported those with MS as well as the research for finding a cure for many, many years. It has become a long standing tradition that our students enjoy.

Each year, Mr. Pot challenges the students to reach a certain goal. This year, the students smashed through his goal, bringing in more than $4500 for the MS Society.
So awesome! Many in our community will be blessed by those efforts.

Because they beat the goal, the whole school was treated to a pancake
breakfast before March break.
The top 3 fund raising classes (per average of students) were rewarded with a bowling trip.
Today was the day!

The grades 1, 2 and 5 classes went to Playmor lanes today. We took over all 10 lanes for cosmic, glow in the dark bowling.
It was so much fun!
Thank you to all our students for reading and caring for those in our community.
